Early Bird to Night Owl

This morning, we met with the LSEs for training in the Living Hope main office.  Will and I sat with Ocean View and debriefed about holiday clubs.  We showed everyone a dance number that we taught the children.  Hysterical.  After planning for next week's afternoon club, we left to go home around noon to fix our lunches.

After lunch, I went to my room to take a quick nap before we had to leave for the District 6 museum!  It was such a cool place.  It is located down town in a church that was once used by "non-whites" in the community.  In 1966, the Group Areas Act was implemented to assign racial groups to different areas of town, eventually leading to apartheid in South Africa.  It was fascinating to go through and read the history [and irrationality] behind it all.  Universal elections occurred for the first time in South Africa in 1994.  That is crazy to think that only 18 years ago, this was all taking place.  David, our awesome driver, was telling me that he remembers going to "white-only" parks, restrooms, etc.  He said since he was so young, he never understood why they did that.  It was interesting to hear his take on it.  Really neat museum worth exploring.

After District 6, we went back home (in the rain) to get ready for the braai cookout!  A "braai" is very similar to a BBQ, so a lot of people were planning on being there!  Tim, Natasha, the Delaware team, all the summer interns, David, and a few people from Masiphumele all came to grill out and have a good time.  Ms. Bernie and Ms. Anita were in the kitchen for many hours preparing it, as well as, grilling the meat outside.  It was so much fun.  The backyard has a really cool hut made out of a tin roof and sticks.  I brought my computer outside and we listened to some tunes while grilling out.

Mia & Becca with some of the Delaware team behind them!

Played the question game with a few people... went inside to get food.... ate the fantastic food on my plate... then, DANCE PARTY.  We plugged my computer in to David's huge speaker system so everyone could hear the music playing.  Had a lot of dance jams going (Outkast, Destiny's Child, Shakira, Spice Girls, Sean Paul, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, etc.) so everyone could enjoy it.  Brought out the cupid shuffle, cha cha slide, wobble, Adpi line dance (of course), and the bernie.  It was hilarious!  Ms. Bernie and Ms. Anita even came out to dance!  Mama K was definitely getting into it, which was fantastic.  I always dance hard enough to claim it as my cardio workout for the day.  Works every time. My quads will be so sore tomorrow- no doubt about that.  So thankful to be surrounded by such a loving community!  Blessed to be able to have some great quality fellowship time tonight!

Looking forward to seeing what Saturday brings!  Sleep is needed... signing off at 12:42 AM.... YIKES.
