Seals and Rugby.

Happy Saturday!

Today was a beautiful day here in Cape Town!  Unfortunately, this morning it was extremely windy so Table Mountain was a no go.  I really wish we could have hiked it, but we still made the best out of the day!  The 5 girls (Mia, Becca, Berrit, Mama K, and I) and David left the house around 8:30 this morning to drive to Hout Bay via Chapman's Peak.  The boys decided they wanted to sleep in, so they didn't come along for the ride.  We stopped at the peak and took some more pictures together.  David showed us a little ledge/cave area underneath the peak which had a beautiful view as well.  After seeing the Peak, we drove maybe 2 more miles and then came upon Peace Fort, an old mining ground that was used during the war.  There were still 8 cannons left on the coast so we were able to walk down and see them.

We left shortly after and headed to Seal Island!  It did start to rain just a bit, but luckily it cleared up later on.  We took a boat about 25 minutes out to see an island that just had a ton of seals laying out/swimming in the water.  It was so cool to see all of them just chillin' there.  They were making a lot of noise too, which was humorous.  Not only did we see a ton of seals, but also a double rainbow!  It was the first double rainbow I had ever seen before.  So cool.  The picture below shows some of the rainbow above Seal Island.  Beautiful!

After seeing the seals, we went to Hout Bay Market which was such a cool place.  It was indoors and completely filled with really awesome vendors (both food and stuff).  We looked around for quite a bit and then ate lunch.  Berrit and I both ate there.  I had a fantastic homemade chicken wrap and she ate a homemade cheese pizza.  We were both very satisfied.  Everyone else ate fish and chips at Fish on the Rocks right next to the market.  Once they finished, we went back inside the market for dessert.  Oh my gosh.  Incredible.  Anything from cupcakes, cheesecakes, pies, milk tarts, brownies, gelato, etc.  I bought a piece of chocolate mousse and ganache cake.  Yes please.  It was absolutely delicious.  After stuffing our faces, we left around 1:00 to head to the rugby match!

Arrived a few blocks from Newlands Stadium around 1:45.  Walked into the stadium, found our seats, and waited for the other 30 people (teams and staff included) to join in on the fun.  It wasn't that big of a stadium (compared to football stadiums in America), but it still was a very nice facility.  None of us know the rules of rugby so I asked David to give us a little explanation of what we should expect to see on the field.  It's so complicated, confusing, and just down right insane.  The fact that they don't wear any padding whatsoever is outrageous!!!  We quickly found out they wear the shortest shorts ever to show off the biggest quads I have ever seen.  Crazy.  Cape Town's team, the Stormers, played an Australian team, the Rebels.  It was a great game that kept the energy going.  Stormers won 26-21.  Here are a few pictures from the match...

We had such a fun time watching the players completely rip each other apart.  It was so intriguing.  We left the stadium around 5:00 and headed back to the house.  Ms. Bernie had prepared chicken sandwiches for us earlier that day, so we helped ourselves in the kitchen.  Once Berrit, Becca, Mia, and I all finished eating, we went up to our room and watched a movie together.  It was so much fun!  Mia made popcorn and we used Berrit's computer to watch it.  All 4 of us piled on to Mia's bed as well as mine, after we pushed both together.  Great night with the ladies.

All in all, it was a beautiful Saturday.  Even though we weren't able to hike Table Mountain, we still got to experience a lot of Cape Town which I am very grateful for.  We are planning on going to the Common Ground church tomorrow morning at 10:30.  A lot of the Living Hope staff/volunteers attend here.
Looking forward to it!
